which direction to twist tuning pegs to tighten/loosen guitar strings?

right handed guitar – which direction tightens it? im trying not to snap the strings so yeah, beginner question i know.

If the guitar is upright on your lap, with the neck facing to the left, to tighten the strings (and make them sharper, or higher) you’ll turn them away from you. To loosen them, you’ll turn them to the right, or towards you.

Snapping the strings shouldn’t be a problem unless you’re REALLY out of tune, and if you have a tuner you should be fine.
