how can I clean rust or keep it to a minimum until I can get new strings for my guitar?

my guitar’s strings have gone rusty. but when I rubbed it with my sleeve a bit came off. is there something I can put on them, I guess just to stop them staining my fingers?

string cleaning products are available from companies like Jim Dunlop, Ernie Ball and planet waves. these are really good for removing marks and rust from strings. they’re usually straight forward and called ’string cleaner’
tho i suggest you get new strings ASAP. rusty strings are no good for the guitar or your fingers
