guitar strings notes tuning
what are the notes of guitar strings when its tuned down to d?

Actually there are twol ways to do this tuning. The person above listed what is called drop D. The advantage of this tuning is that other than the bass note all the chord shapes remain the same.

But irish players, and also blues ‘bottle-neck’ players often use the DADGAD tuning. That way the open strings are a rich D chord, and you can create really interesting variation on it with only one or two fingers. This is ideal for slide or bottle-neck players since the chords are all straight across. The down side is that the B string drops a whole note, and that makes it a little hard to hold pitch. You may have to touch up your intonation more frequently.

No matter what tunings you choose to use, you should learn all your regular chord shapes up and down the neck. It’s good to focus on three and four note chords, where the unplayed strings are muted. There are a lot of times when all six notes isn’t what you want… you will find that fewer notes in some chords is a powerful arranging idea.
