Just got new acousitc guitar strings. Dstring rings out high, almost like a harmonic, when played open. why?
I thought this only started happening when the strings got old. But i just replaced my strings with Elixirs and the D still rings funny. It’s only when played open. If im fretting the D it sounds normal.

Big D, i was very hopeful that that would fix it. unfortunately i just restrung it exactly as shown, and it’s still ringing. This has hapeened before on multiple guitars, but it’s usually with old strings.
Bring the guitar to whoever sold it to you. If you change the string and you hear a harmonic to it, it could be that the string is too tight at the fingerboard nut and needs to be filed slightly.
Sometimes, the string doesn’t sit well in the groove and is pinched and that, will produce the sound especially playing open.
The string has to sit in a V-groose and shold move freely.
